How to transition to crib in own room from bed?
Baby BeddingCorinne C asked:
I need to transition my 8 month old into a crib in her own room. She is currently sleeping in my bed and a co-sleeper. She starts in the co sleeper and generaly ends up next to me either by crawling to me or durning a night time feeding I fall asleep. However since she is crawling, and standing our sleep situation is no longer safe. She will nap in her crib during the day but fights it horribly at night. She doesn’t cry it out well, it just escalates, and she can last (and has) for hours. So I would like to find a way that doesn’t involve much crying. I really need some ideas….

This may be a hard transition for her. Can you wait until she falls asleep and put her in the crib? How about stay with her in her room until she falls asleep? Maybe move the crib into your room for a bit. That way she will at least have your presence even when she’s sleeping alone.
Best of luck,

We had the same problem only it was sleeping on mom in the chair instead of our bed. Try and do all night time feedings in her room instead of your bed, move a nice chair in there or something. There might not be a way to reduce the crying, she is going to be set on staying in your bed, but just realize she will be safer and more comfortable in her own bed in the long run and you will be able to do it. We tried to reduce crying by staying by our son’s crib after laying him down, picking him up after 2 minutes of crying and not laying him down until he was calmed again, but that didn’t work very well for us. We eventually went for the cry out, I remember it lasting like almost 2 hours the first night, 1 1/2 the second, almost 3 the next (very discouraging), then 45 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 0 minutes from then out. For the really long cries we would go calm him down and check after 45 minutes of straight crying because we couldn’t handle three hours straight.
