How often do you change your baby’s diaper during the night?

My 8 week old wakes up every 3 hours during the night, and every time she wakes up I change her diaper, but after eating she stays awake for a while. If I dont change it, she would sleep right after eating, but I dont want her to get a rash.

I change it everytime I notice it is wet…is it possible to change it THEN feed her? So that way she will fall back to sleep easier?

I don’t change it at all. I stopped when he was a week or 2 old. He was never prone to rashes and rarely got them. I really wanted to teach him about nighttime and so I didn’t change it unless it was poopy. It doesnt’ damage them. I am sure he will still grown up to be a perfectly healthy man.
I did change my daughers diaper at night at every feeding for 2 months, but than she always slept really good.

My son has only been waking 1x a night to have his pacifier put back in. We don’t change his diaper over night. And he has no diaper rash. Try going a night without changing and see if diaper rash developes. If it does, then treat it and go back to changing the diaper. If she doesn’t get diaper rash then you know you don’t have to change her during the night.
When my son was that young I’d change the diaper then feed and he would go right back to sleep. Do you change her diaper first?

I dont think I changed mine unless it was number 2, i think you have to do what your comfortable with, you don’t want them to lay in it for too long, but my theory dont wake a sleeping baby..especially at night..ask your doc.. good luck.

When my baby was still waking up in the middle of the night I changed his diaper after every feeding. I also didn’t want him to get a rash. Now that he sleeps through the night, he doesn’t get a diaper change until the morning, so I slather some Boudreaux’s Buttpaste on his hiney and it usually keeps him rash free.
If its ok for a baby who sleeps all night to stay in a diaper, I don’t see why it would hurt for a baby who still wakes up to feed to stay in one, as long as they don’t get a mean diaper rash from it. You could try it one night and see if that solves your problem.

I don’t usually change her during the night. Only if it’s extremely wet. I’d rather her get a little more sleep. She also isn’t prone to rashes though. But do whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

I don’t change diapers unless they are poopy at night. My son now sleeps through most nights and he never wakes with diaper rash from a wet diaper. Remember that urine is sterile so as long as you clean her bum and parts real well - DRY them (that’s the important part) and slather on a good layer of diaper cream, she’ll be fine and happier.

If it wakes her up more, do not change her unless she is poopy or leaky wet. I’d get some of the huggies overnigt diapers and put on some desitin before bedtime. Mine usually doesn’t wake, so he’s in the same diaper for about 12 hours and that is what I do.

I do not change it and he fall to sleep right after he eats…I had the same problem and when I changed him he became hyper and even the food didn’t calm him down…and I also experience he does not pee that much during the night …and he doesn;t have any rush

I change it once because otherwise my daughter is as my husband poetically put it “marinating in pee.”
However, I do it before I even take her out of the crib and definitely before she eats. Then I swaddle her tight, feed her and it’s like the diaper change never happened.

It depends on whether you are using cloth or disposable nappies.
Cloth - everytime if its wet or dirty.
Disposable - if its saturated and I mean full or if its dirty.
I was taught change, feed, and then play but if she is willing to go straight back to sleep after then great, just make sure you change her before feeds which will help wake her up enough to feed anyway.

For the first few weeks, its every dirty diaper. Wet or dirty. Now, only if dirty. A thick layer or diaper cream every time though to prevent rashes overnight.

I change my baby’s every 3 hours as well. BEFORE I start feeding that way I can set him down after feeding and he falls right to sleep.
