what kind of diaper rash ointment can I use with cloth diapers?

I have always just used a cheap brand of zinc oxide which is what the main ingredient in any in diaper cream really is. It is .
It forms a barrier between the skin and any urine. I have also used it myself if I have any chafing in the summertime from being sweaty like rubbing from your bathing suit. It also makes a complete sunblock but you have to really rub it in.
I got a big jar of it at my local store for about 2.00

my doctor told me to never use diaper rash ointment, he told me to use petrolium jelly and it has worked well for my kids…

I use desitin and balmex…. I tried the natural beaver stuff but it stained the diapers. I have never had a problem with stinky diapers from cream, but I also wash on deep clean/HOT. I guess if you were to use cream ALL the time it might get build up, but you could just strip the dipes every once in a while in that case. What kind of diapers are you using?? Prefolds, AIO’s, Fitteds? What brand? sometimes that makes a differance too.

Balmex did well with me and they usually clear them after one to two application adn they don;t stain or stink the cloth.

My son had terrible blistered diaper rash. I used expensive diapers, I changed him frequently, and I allowed him to air out during the day with no diaper on. I could not get rid of his diaper rash no matter what. I was terribly embarrassed about it and of course, my doctor probably thought I was just not changing him like I should. I used all of the different diaper rash ointments (even had a pharmacist mix up a special kind) and nothing worked. Then finally a family member told me about CORNSTARCH! Yes, just plain old cornstarch sold in the baking section of the grocery store. Extremely cheap and cleared him up instantly (within a day or two). Ever since then whenever I seen him become red or irritated I used cornstarch and NEVER had a diaper rash again. Still to this day and he is 5 if his bottom gets red from improper wiping I use it and he’s fine. So please, please try CORNSTARCH as it saved me.

Dr.Smith’s is great! it doesn’t stain or have a strong scent. It is affordable too.
This is the brand that ALL my Mommy friends suggested to me when I had my first.
They also suggested A&D but it DOES have a strong scent- I wouldn’t suggest using it on cloth diapers.
Using petroleum Jelly actually does work really well, but some rashes need more.
And also I will suggest (to help ease a rash) that using cloth wipes are better than using disposable baby wipes. For my little girl, she was VERY sensitive and I had to use soft cloths to wipe her.

I think that the best thing for a diaper rash is A&D plus you can use it on burns and little cuts too

the best thing and cheapest- CORN STARCH! My kids are allergic to every kind of diaper except huggies..anything else breaks them out, pour corn starch on the area-it will clear up in no time…

Ointments with petroleum products shouldn’t be used with cloth diapers because they waterproof them.
I love Burt’s Bees diaper cream. It’s kind of pricey (about $8 per tube), but I use it so rarely that the cost isn’t a factor. I’ve also used a brand I got off the Internet called Baby Bottom Better. It’s made of calendula, olive oil and bees wax. (Just a tip, olive oil alone can work well.) If your baby does get a rash, another option is to get flushable diaper liners to protect the diaper and use regular diaper ointment. Caldesene powder contains zinc oxide, but doctors are steering parents away from using powders these days. I don’t know the verdict on that one.
Baby’s in cloth diapers generally don’t have problems with rashes, so I hope you are lucky and never need anything.

i have used balmex occasionally when needed, and never noticed a smell …(out of the ordinary
)
i have only ‘had’ to use it once when a little fat roll was getting irritated, and it cleared up in 1 day w/balmes - cornstarch, a&d, vaseline & triple antibiotic did not work - and 1 of the above usually does
just an fyi though - when traveling or in car for more than 30 minutes - i always use a little vaseline to keep moisture away, but i also line dry at least once a week - so i am not bothered with oil build up
what type of diapers are you using? i use prefolds, have 1 happy heiny and even using nothing, it is stinky
ps - you may want to try the dappi diaper cover - it is extremely cheap and served me better than the proraps - $3 each - babybestbuy.com - but buy next size up - the rise is not very generous -
