Can you take a stroller in the sand at the beach? Prohibited or impossible to push?
Baby Strollers_ asked:
My husband and I are trying to figure out whether we need to take our full sized stroller or an umbrella stroller on vacation. I personally would rather the smaller one, but I’m afraid it won’t navigate well. If we can’t use a stroller in the sand, it won’t matter which one we bring. We’re concerned for space so the umbrella stroller is most reasonable.

I’m a first time mom, so please help me out! Thanks!

they are all impossible in the sand, go for the lighter one and one of you can carry the baby and the other the stroller. Or if your hubby is strong he can lift them both together.

Very very difficult to push in the sand! Try using a sling or carrier at the beach

I used a small stroller on the sand and it was impossible to push, the wheels just didn’t turn. If your bigger one has the sort of tyres that have grip (usually inflatable) then you may do better BUT I’d be worried about sand getting trapped and ruining the wheels.
I’ll second what other poster said and go for a sling/carrier, it’ll leave your hands free too

Unless you have a pram with big blow up tyres, you’ll get bogged. Umbrella strollers are useless in the sand. The prams with large tyres like children’s bicycles are your best bet. If you don’t have one like that, I’d say forget pram, get yourself a back pack to carry Bubs on Dad’s back!

I have taken my full size stroller in the sand and found that I couldn’t get too far. The stroller was impossible to push through all the sand. The sand also ruined the wheel mechanisim and I had a lot of wheel cleaning to do post beach visit.
Umbrella Strollers are a blessing when it comes to the beach. They are light weight, compact and cheap. If they become ruined it isn’t a big deal. You are going to have a hard time navagating ANY stroller through sand.

Take the smaller one because it will be easier to pull. Yes pull not push. You wont be able to push. If you don’t mind walking backwards to get to the spot you are going to set up. If you tilt the stroller back so that its only the back two in the sand you can pull it like that and it should work.

If you have to pick, pick the smaller one. But strollers are very hard to push in the sand.
