How do you handle a newborn and a stroller in a walkup apartment?
Baby Strollershelloworld asked:
Any secret tips when you live in a walk up….how to get the baby and the stroller down to the street? (if there’s outside stairs…and you cant leave your stroller out there)

Take the baby up first, baby is more important than anything else, or buy a light stroller and carry both together, if you feel tired rest in the mid way, hopefully some gentlemen will help.
Or get a baby carrier to hold the baby to you and you have the free hand to carry the stroller.

Get one of the cheap strollers that folds up really tiny (like from Wal-mart, they cost like $15). Practice opening it one-handed. Carry it down in one hand and the baby in the other. Once you get downstairs, open the stroller, put the baby in it and away u go. It’s a lot harder when you get back from your outing though, even the little strollers are hard to fold up one-handed.

They have small frames at Wal Mart.com that just hold the infant seat and weigh about 5 lbs. I would get one of those. It is important that you don’t strain yourself too much since a fall down the stairs could be dangerous for you and your babe.

I’d make sure to get a baby carrier. The one you have your baby on you. That I think would make it easier. Good Luck.

Do you absolutely need the stroller? Have you considered using a baby sling (or other carrier) instead of the stroller most of the time? It doesn’t make it more difficult to get up and down the stairs the way a stroller does. It is easier to get through narrow doorways and through crowds, too.

I have two month old twins and my way of doing this is.. I leave the stroller in the trunk so all I have to do is take the twins up the steps.
