Is it okay for an infant to sleep the night in a stroller bassinet?
Baby StrollersSILMINPARIS asked:
We live in Paris and don’t have much room at all. We were planning on having our daughter sleep in the stroller’s bassinet for the first few months. We also have a pack-n-play. Is it okay for her to sleep in the bassinet? How do you do up the bedding?

My theory is that if it works for you, do it. Just beware, your baby may grow out of the bassinet before you’re expecting her to. As to bedding, you can probably get covers for the bassinet pad from your stroller manufacturer.

The main thing is to let the baby sleep in a horizontal position, not all crunched up and hunched over in a stroller, the baby is still forming bone structure, you need to keep her back on good solid sleeping surface, a bassinet with a fairly firm mattress would be fine. Babies sleep better when they are slightly cool, keep a little cap on her head and put her in a good little one piece sleeper, light blanket, she should sleep like a little lamb.

My daughter would not sleep for more than an hour at a time and my Doctor told us to leave her in her car seat and see what happened. She slept ALL NIGHT long!!!! We just laid down one of her blankets, strapped her in and covered her up.
With the SIDS scare, I would find a FITTED bassinet sheet and put a bassinet pad under that. The pack in play is fine too. They sell fitted sheets for those too and they already have a pad.
Good Luck!

its not reccomended, but i put my son in his pusher to sleep because he refused to sleep in his cot,,, lay his stroller right back, and get a lambs wool to put in it, a well fitting one especially for pushers ( available at most baby stores) then swaddle bubs (wrap tightly for security) place him on his back and then tuck another blanket or baby sheet around his middle section and then under the lambs wool to keep him all snugg and secure…. i did this ans i was totally against it to start with because of everything to do with sids… BUT it was the best way for him to sleep and that meant i could sleep,, trust your instincts, follow the basic guidlines and do what you think is best for your little one

I don’t see why not. If it is similar to a normal bassinett then at least your’s has wheels, which believe me can be a god send on those cholicy nights!
It depends on how the mat fits into the base, if it is removable then you could make up a fitted bottom sheet, and just tuck in the top sheet like a normal bassinet. If it is not removable, then perhaps approaching a foam store to get a thin foam mattress for the bassinet, then making the sheets to fit, may be the way to go.
Just be really careful to be aware when your baby starts to roll over, it can become a fall risk when they figure out how to pull themselves around…but this is the same for normal bassinets too.
You need to think about what you are going to do when the baby gets older…some porta cots are fine for baby to sleep in, but some are not so safe….they are easily tipped over by a climbing baby.
Congrats on the new arrival to be, all the best!

as long as it has a mattress then it is fine. If it is a pram carrycot with a mattress then this is ideal for the first few months but without the mattress is not recommended and a moses basket would be safer. The best person to ask is your midwife they will give it to you straight.

My childrens peditrician said that as long as they are sleeping & thus allowing me to sleep, let him sleep where ever works best for him. As he gets older it will be easier to get baby to sleep in a bed. All of my kids started in the bassinet of the pack-n-play…along with the swing, the bouncy seat, the couch, the floor & the car seat. I always slept in the same room as them & getting a good 4-5 hours on the couch is much better than getting 2 hours after trying to get baby to sleep in his crib. Eventually they all moved to the middle level of the Pack-n-Play, then to the lower & eventually to the crib.
My oldest 2 have no troubles going to sleep in their bunks, # 3 is in the crib next to them & #4 sleeps where ever he wants.
Just keep away from loose bedding. I just lay blankets under my newborn & make sure they are away from his face.

I’d do the pack ‘n play, not the stroller–problem: she’ll outgrow the stroller (can no longer be in it once she can roll–about 3 mos of age. It then becomes a suffocation hazard. It’ll also be harder to switch her out later if she’s in the stroller now and she’ll have to adjust to a new bed and you’ll be posting questions about how to transition her. Just start her in the pack ‘n play now to avoid the troubles.

LET THE SLEEPING BABY LIE! Trust me hon, when your baby falls asleep let him sleep. My children has often slept in the bassinet, play pen or car seat. As long as the baby cannot get hurt and the baby is comfortable leave him alone. I would put a crip sheet around the bassinet or pack n play pad and cover them over with a blanket.
